Takeoff is the part of a bid where someone measures every quantity off the drawings by hand. It is slow, it is repetitive, and one missed count follows the bid all the way to the number you submit. We are building a copilot that does the measuring, inside Bluebeam Revu, the tool estimators already have open.
A forward deployed engineer is how that copilot survives contact with a real bid calendar. You go where the work happens, watch a takeoff being done, and build what is missing. You are the shortest path between an estimator saying "this does not fit how I price drywall" and it fitting.
What you would do
- Go to the customer: their office, their sheets, their bid calendar. Watch a real takeoff before you write a line of code.
- Build the integrations, prompts, and workflows that make Caliente land on their scope, not a generic one.
- Own the first weeks of a deployment end to end. If it does not fit their trade, you make it fit.
- Bring what you learn back to the product team with specifics, not vibes.
- Be the person a head estimator calls when something is wrong, and be the person who fixes it that day.
What we look for
- You can code, and you would rather ship a fix on site than file a ticket about it.
- You are comfortable in a room full of people who know their trade better than you know yours.
- You have worked close to customers before, and you liked it.
- You can hold two things at once: what this one customer needs, and what belongs in the product.
Nice to have, not required
- Construction, estimating, or AEC experience.
- You have worked with Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Revit, or a digitizer.
- Applied AI or LLM tooling in production.
